The Bachelor of Liberal Studies - Accounting Minor YourPace online program is for those who want a well-rounded education with a focus on numbers. Courses
To earn your BLS - Accounting Minor, you need to complete 120 credit hours of coursework. Each course is built around a series of competencies. Once you have mastered the series, you complete the course. The program includes general education, management minor core, and general elective courses. Using our personalized learning model, we look at your past college credit, prior learning, and work experience to create your custom degree plan.
Students must complete a minimum of 40 credits hours of general education courses.
BUS 150: Introduction to Financial Accounting
Duration: 8 weeks, Self-paced | Credit Hours: 3
Topics include transaction analysis, recording accounting information, and preparation of financial statements. Additional topics include accounting for sales, cost of sales, inventory, and other assets. The emphasis is on communicating financial information to external users. Students use accounting software to establish and maintain an accounting system for a simulated business. Prerequisite: MAT 17 or equivalent.
BUS 220: Managerial Accounting
Duration: 8 weeks, Self-paced | Credit Hours: 3
Accounting for internal decision-making, planning, and control purposes. The manufacturing environment is emphasized. Topics include cost behavior and analysis, relevant costs, job order and process cost systems, budgeting, and standard costs. Prerequisite: BUS 150.
BUS 361: Intermediate Accounting I
Duration: 8 weeks, Self-paced | Credit Hours: 3
Financial accounting and its basic theory. Analysis and preparation of financial statements, statements of income and retained earnings, balance sheet, and statement of cash flows. Accounting treatment of current assets, valuation of inventories, accounting for property, plant and equipment, and depreciation. Prerequisite: BUS 150.
BUS 362: Intermediate Accounting II
Duration: 8 weeks, Self-paced | Credit Hours: 3
Accounting for liabilities, stockholder’s equity, intangible assets, and long-term investments. Accounting for leases, in-come taxes, and pension obligations. Prerequisite: BUS 361.
BUS 377: Federal Taxation I
Duration: 8 weeks, Self-paced | Credit Hours: 3
Determination of individual income taxation including income inclusions and exclusions, deductions, sales, exchanges, and other dispositions of property: Prerequisite: BUS 220.
BUS 378: Federal Taxation II
Duration: 8 weeks, Self-paced | Credit Hours: 3
This course teaches the complex tax concepts of corporate, partnership, and estate and trust taxation. Prerequisite: BUS 220.
Students must take 62 credit hours of general elective courses.
